Application updates
This article explains how to install and use the IBM® WebSphere® Application Cheap dedicated Server (WAS) Update Manager to install updates and iFixes for WAS 7.x. We discuss an actual example of installing Update Installer, a fixpack update for a DMZ Secure Proxy Server from WAS 7.0 to WAS 7.0.0.15, and an iFix update for a DMZ Secure Proxy Server on WAS 7.0.0.15.
Download the update manager:
- Download the latest Update Installer for WebSphere Application Server V7.0, using IBM Support Download document #4020448, “IBM Update Installer V7.0.0.19 for WebSphere Software for Windows,” and unzip the WAS 7.0 Update Installer into a directory.
- The document includes a list of the downloads available; in this example for Microsoft® Windows®, we have a 32- or 64-bit version available:
3. Download the version appropriate for your OS, and unzip it; the following contents will display:
4. Select “install” and run it to start the install process for the Update Installer
Installing the Update Installer:
1. From the UpdateInstaller sub-directory, invoke/type install; the Installation Wizard for Update Installer window displays. Click the Next button to continue:
2. In the Software License Agreement window, select “I accept both the IBM and the non-IBM terms” and click Next:
3. The System Prerequisites Check window displays; click Next:
4. The Installation Directory window displays; accept the default Directory path, or change it, and click Next:
5. The Installation Summary window displays; click Next:
6. The Installation Complete window displays when the install finishes; click Finish:
When you have the fixes to ready to install, you can launch the IBM Update Installer.
Installing WAS fixpacks:
This section discusses an actual example of a fixpack update for a DMZ Secure Proxy Server from WAS 7.0 to WAS 7.0.0.15. The fixpacks mentioned in this article are specific to this example; however, the process will be the same for other WAS fixpack updates as well.
To install the WAS fixpacks:
1. Launch the IBM Update Installer; the IBM Update Installer for WebSphere Software wizard window displays; click Next:
2. The Product Selection window displays; make sure the Directory path is the install location of the WAS application you wish to update, and then click Next:
3. The Maintenance Operation Selection window displays; make sure the Install maintenance package option is selected, and then click Next:
4. The Maintenance Package Directory Selection window displays. Browse to the location where the latest fixpacks (in this example, for DMZ Secure Proxy and Java SDK) have been downloaded and make sure the directory appears in the Directory path field; click Next:
5. The Available Maintenance Package to Install window displays; make sure the required fixpacks are selected (in this example, the DMZ Secure Proxy and Java SDK fixpacks are selected/checked) and then click Next (these are 32-bit patches):

Installing iFixes:
In this section we discuss an actual example of an iFix update for a DMZ Secure Proxy Server on WAS 7.0.0.15. The iFixes in this article are specific to this example; however, the process is the same for other WAS ifix updates as well.
To install a WAS iFix, first we find and download the required iFixes:
1. From the directory, invoke/type the update command; the IBM Update Installer for WebSphere Software window displays; click Next:
2. The Product Selection window displays; make sure the Directory path is the DMZ Secure Proxy Server install location and then click Next:
3. The Maintenance Operation Selection window displays; make sure the Install maintenance package option is selected; click Next:
4. The Maintenance Package Directory Selection window displays. Browse to the location where the latest iFixes (that is, the iFixes for DMZ Secure Proxy) have been downloaded and make sure directory appears in Directory path; click Next:
5. The Available Maintenance Package to Install window displays; make sure the required iFixes (that is, the DMZ Secure Proxy iFixes) are selected/checked; click Next:
6. The Installation Summary window displays; click Next, to begin the install:
7. The Installation Complete window displays after the iFixes are installed; click Finish:
